Flooring in aquatic environments must meet a demanding set of criteria. Surfaces are exposed to constant moisture, pool chemicals, heavy barefoot foot traffic and slip risk. The project faced two compounding pressures. First, the shutdown window was fixed, with every additional day of closure causing disruption and added cost. Second, diamond grinding revealed corroded reinforcing beneath the existing coating, requiring immediate treatment before the new system could be applied. This additional remediation scope had to be absorbed without extending the timeline.
Following the discovery of the corroded reinforcing, the affected areas were treated and repaired using F1 repair mortar to restore a sound substrate ahead of coating application. Flowfast SR at 2mm was then applied to the bleacher steps, while Flowcoat OP at 0.3mm was applied to the bleacher upstands as a hard-wearing protective epoxy finish, delivering a consistent and durable result across the full 240-square-metre installation.
The full 240 m² installation was completed within the planned shutdown period. MMA cure times of one to two hours per coat allowed Epoxy Flooring Ltd to maintain progress throughout, even after the remediation delay. Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre now has a seamless, slip-resistant, and durable bleacher coating that is easy to maintain and designed for straightforward future recoating without returning to the bare substrate.
